Urjala is known to many as the setting of Väinö Linna’s Under the North Star trilogy.
Travelers along Highway 9 between Tampere and Turku also recognize Urjalan Makeistukku and the renovated Pentinkulma service station. Many are also familiar with the Nuutajärvi Glass Village and the Pölkinvuori Experience Garden, both located in Urjala.

How can I get to Urjala by public transport?

  • Buses operating between Tampere and Turku stop in the centre of Urjala.

The Pölkinvuori Experience Garden is a bulb flower park established in a coniferous forest, featuring a nature trail and the highest point in Urjala.

There are also several lean-to shelters in the municipality, as well as bird- and nature-watching towers along the shores of Lake Kortejärvi and Lake Nuutajärvi.

Can you go ice skating or cross-country skiing on the ice?

  • Weather permitting, skating tracks are cleared on the ice of Lake Rutajärvi by volunteers. Good starting points are at Kaunisto beach and at the Kajabaca Berry Farm shore.
